ATHENS, Ga. – Coastal Carolina men's golfers
Max Bengtsson and
Drew Sykes wrapped up play at the 2026 NCAA Athens Regional on Wednesday at the University of Georgia Golf Course, concluding the Chanticleers' 2025-26 season.
Bengtsson tied for 28th overall at 2-under par for the tournament after rounds of 69, 71 and 71. The senior closed his collegiate career with the lowest scoring average in program history at 71.62 strokes per round over 63 career rounds played.
A two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection, Bengtsson put together a standout senior season in 2025-26. He captured two tournament victories, including medalist honors at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, becoming just the second Chanticleer to win the league title. He also tied the program record for the lowest round in school history with a 63 at the 2026 General Hackler Championship.
Bengtsson carded nine birdies and 39 pars over the three-day tournament. He opened the regional with a 2-under 69 on Monday and followed with consecutive rounds of even-par 71 over the final two days.
Sykes finished tied for 64th at 7-over par. The sophomore rebounded from an opening-round 74 with a 3-under 68 in Tuesday's second round. He concluded the tournament with a final-round 78 in his second career NCAA Regional appearance.
As a team, Vanderbilt captured the regional title at 28-under par, followed by Louisville (-26), Auburn (-22), BYU (-20) and Georgia (-19), as those five teams advanced to the NCAA Championships. Louisiana's Malan Potgieter also advanced at the low individual after shooting 14-under par.
