Women’s Tennis Hits the Road for Spring Opener at CofC

Chanticleers will compete at the College of Charleston this Wednesday
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team will open up its 2023 spring season this week on the road Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the College of Charleston. The first serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.
While it is the first match of the spring for the Chanticleers, the Cougars of CofC are 1-1 on the season with a road loss at Clemson (Jan. 14) and a home win over Presbyterian College (Feb. 1) last time out.
The Chanticleers return five letterwinners from a season ago, headlined by All-Sun Belt performers Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins. De Samucewicz is a two-time All-Sun Belt second-team honoree for singles play and was named to the 2022 All-Sun Belt first-team for doubles last year along with Hollins.
Also returning this season for the Chants are super senior Megan Hopton, junior Isabella Weatherhead, and sophomore Anna Babayan. Hopton and Babayan are both in their second seasons at Coastal and played in 17 matches or more last spring. In her third year with the Chants, Weatherhead will compete for more playing time this season, having played in just four matches a year ago.
In addition to the returners, head coach Catherine Hewitt brought in a trio of experienced transfers in Tatum Burger, Lilie Steryous, and Kata Foldeak, who all saw time for the Teal and Bronze in the fall season.
The Chants' first home match will be on Friday, Feb. 10, at noon ET versus Charleston Southern.
