CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will set its sights on Sun Belt Conference play, as the Chanticleers will open up the conference slate at home this week versus Southern Miss on Thursday, March 16, and against Louisiana on Saturday, March 18.
Thursday's match versus Southern Miss will begin at 1 p.m. ET, while first serve for the conference match against Louisiana on Saturday is set for noon ET.
The Chanticleers finished their non-conference portion of the schedule at 9-4 overall, including starting the season by winning four of their first five matches.
Coastal is coming off a challenging week in which the Chants played four matches in six days across three different states and culminated with a road match at No. 14 nationally-ranked Wake Forest last Sunday.
Leading the way for the Chants this season are
Carlos Berna Ruiz, Ryuya Ata, and
Guilherme Toresan, as all are tied with the team lead with seven singles wins on the season.
Fellow Chants
Maj Tomac,
Jesus Garcia, and
Rivers Cahill are all riding two-match win streaks entering the week, while overall the last 10 matches seven different Chants are .500 or better in singles competition.
The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss enter the week at 6-7 overall on the season and will be making their Sun Belt Conference debut versus the Chants on Thursday afternoon having joined the league in the summer of 2022.
After winning back-to-back matches over Nicholls (Feb. 26) and Jackson State (March 2), Southern Miss has dropped each of its last two matches, both of which were on the road, at New Orleans (March 4) and Jacksonville State (March 13).
The Ragin' Cajuns head to Conway with a 7-6 overall record and will also open up conference play versus the Chanticleers.
Louisiana, who is 0-5 in true road matches this season, are 4-1 in neutral site matches which includes a win over Charlotte at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., and a pair of wins at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi, Texas.
