ATLANTA, Ga. – Coastal Carolina women's tennis took its winning streak on the road and kept it intact, as the Chanticleers defeated Georgia State 4-1 in Sun Belt Conference play in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday afternoon to extend the winning streak to 10 consecutive wins.
CCU moves to 10-4 on the season and 2-0 in Sun Belt play with the win.
With the help of a forfeit by the Panthers at the No. 3 doubles position, the Chanticleers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as
Anna Babayan and
Megan Hopton extended their winning streak to 10-straight wins at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 6-4 win over GSU's Pragnya Kumar and Michelle Ncube to seal the doubles point for the visitors.
After a GSU forfeit on court No. 6 in singles play pushed the Chants' lead to 2-0, Babayan picked up a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set win on court No. 2 over Ncube to extend the lead to 3-0.
After GSU's Eva Chivu held off CCU's
Victoire De Samucewicz for a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court No. 1 to put the score at 3-1, the Chants'
Tatum Burger defeated Kumar 6-3, 6-3 in straight-sets on court No. 4 to give CCU the 4-1 conference road win.
In the two unfinished singles bouts, both Hopton (7-5, 4-0) and
Jesse Hollins (7-5, 2-0) were in the lead at the time the match was decided, which keeps their winning streaks undamaged at eight-straight victories with the unfinished matches.
Coastal will return home to host Louisiana on Saturday, March 25, and Texas State on Sunday, March 26. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
