Women’s Tennis Returns to the Road for a Pair of SBC Matches

Chanticleers have won 12-straight matches
CONWAY, S.C. – After a pair of Sun Belt Conference wins at home at the Stevens Tennis Complex, the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team will return to the road this weekend for conference matches at South Alabama (April 1) and Southern Miss (April 2). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
The Chanticleers are 12-4 overall and 4-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, having won 12 consecutive matches after starting the season at 0-4.
Coastal is coming off a weekend in which the Chants defeated Louisiana 4-1 (March 25) and downed Texas State 6-1 (March 26) the next day.
CCU's Jesse Hollins has won nine consecutive matches entering play this weekend and is 9-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in Sun Belt play. While playing at the No. 5 spot predominantly, her two losses in singles play came back in February versus Charleston Southern (Feb. 14) and Clemson (Feb. 19).
In addition to Hollins' streak, fellow Chant Anna Babayan has won five-straight singles bouts at the No. 2 spot and is 10-4 overall on the season, while both Lilie Steryous and Tatum Burger have won each of their last four singles contests.
It all starts with doubles play, as the Chants have lost the doubles point just twice all season long, in losses at Clemson and South Carolina (Feb. 17).
The pair of Babayan and Megan Hopton have won 12-straight doubles bouts and are 14-2 overall at the No. 1 position this season to lead the Chants, while the team of Hollins and De Samucewicz is 9-0 on the spring season at the No. 3 flight.
South Alabama enters the matchup with Coastal on Saturday at 12-3 overall but just 2-2 in conference play after back-to-back road losses at No. 23 Old Dominion (March 25) and James Madison (March 26) last weekend.
The Jaguars are a perfect 7-0 at home this season with wins over West Alabama (Jan. 23), Auburn University at Montgomery (Jan. 27), Xavier University of Louisiana (Jan. 29), University of Mobile (Feb. 3), West Florida (Feb. 5), New Orleans (Feb. 17), Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 18), and Troy (March 11).
Southern Miss, who will host Georgia Southern on Saturday prior to the Chants coming to town on Sunday, are 6-6 overall on the season and 1-4 in conference action.
The Golden Eagles had won three-straight matches before the start of conference play but since then have gone 1-4, with the lone win being a 5-2 victory at Texas State (March 17). They are coming off a pair of road losses at James Madison (March 25) and No. 23 Old Dominion (March 26) last weekend.
