CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will wrap up its regular-season slate at home this weekend, April 15-16, with a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches. The Chanticleers will host No. 74 South Alabama on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET and then turn around to welcome Troy on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
Prior to the match on Saturday versus the Jaguars, the team will recognize its seniors as part of Senior Day.
The Chanticleers are 10-10 overall this season and 1-5 in Sun Belt Conference play. CCU will look to snap a five-match losing streak, with four of the five losses coming on the road in Sun Belt play.
Veteran
Carlos Berna Ruiz leads the way in singles play with a team-high nine wins, while three Chants in
Ryuya Ata,
Maj Tomac, and
Guilherme Toresan all have recorded eight wins in singles action on the season.
In doubles play, head coach
Chris Powers has sent out 10 different pairs in the spring season, with the duo of Tomac and Ata sitting at 5-2 overall at the No. 2 spot and
Steve Mundt and Berna Ruiz leading the way at 4-3 at the No. 1 position.
No. 74 South Alabama enters the weekend at 13-7 overall and 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, having won each of its last three matches.
The Jaguars, who broke into the top 75 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Rankings this week, are 9-0 on their home courts this year but just 3-6 in road matches.
The Troy Trojans are 15-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play heading into this week's action, in which they will play Augusta on Saturday prior to making the trip to Conway, S.C., for the regular-season finale on Sunday.
Like the Jaguars, the Trojans have been stellar at home this season at 9-2 overall but are just 4-4 in road matches.
