Women’s Tennis Falls at Home to the Dukes, 4-3

Chants will wrap up their regular season next Saturday at home
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team won three of the six singles matches yet saw the doubles point go to the visiting Dukes as the Chanticleers suffered a 4-3 Sun Belt Conference defeat to James Madison at home on Sunday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The loss dropped CCU to 15-7 overall and 7-3 in Sun Belt Conference play. With the win, JMU improved to 12-7 overall and 8-1 in league action.
The Chanticleers fell behind in the match 1-0 early, as the Dukes took wins on courts No. 1 and 2 in doubles play to pick up the doubles point.
Coastal's duo of Tatum Burger and Lilie Steryous fell 6-2 to the JMU team of Daria Munteanu and Daniela Voloch, while the tandem of Anna Babayan and Megan Hopton was edged by the JMU pair of Kylie Moulin and Ines Oliveira 7-6 (7-2) on court No. 1.
The Chanticleers quickly took a 2-1 match lead with back-to-back straight-set wins on courts No. 4 and 1, as Jesse Hollins dominated in a 6-1, 6-0 beat down of Oliveira on court No. 4, while her doubles partner Victoire De Samucewicz upended Kylie Moulin 6-4, 6-3 on court No. 1.
However, the Dukes took the next two matches on courts No. 3 and 5, both in straight sets, to take a 3-2 lead in the contest with two matches to play.
The Dukes were able to pick up the next victory to give the visitors the 4-2 lead, as Afanasyeva held off CCU's Babayan 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 2.
CCU's Kata Foldeak closed the match with a three-set 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 win, as the transfer fought back from the first-set loss to defeat JMU's Munteanu on court No. 5.
Coastal will return home to wrap up its 2023 regular season versus Troy on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m. ET. It will also be Senior Day.
