Women’s Tennis to Open 2023 SBC Championship on Wednesday Afternoon

Chants earned the No. 3 seed for the championship tournament
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team earned the No. 3 seed with their 8-3 Sun Belt Conference regular-season record and will open up play at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament versus the No. 14-seeded Arkansas State Red Wolves in the first round on Wednesday, April 26, at noon ET in Peachtree City, Ga.
The Chanticleers finished the regular season at 16-7 overall and 8-3 in Sun Belt play with a 6-1 win over Troy in the regular-season finale on April 22.
Coastal defeated Arkansas State 4-0 in Jonesboro, Ark., on April 8.
Five Chants lead the way with double-digit wins on the season, led by a team-high 13 victories from junior Jesse Hollins and super senior Tatum Burger. Anna Babayan (12), Victoire De Samucewicz (11), and Lilie Steryous (10) have also won double-digit matches in singles play, while Megan Hopton has posted nine wins on the season.
Both Kata Foldeak and Isabella Weatherhead enter the conference tournament on winning streaks in singles play, as Foldeak returned from injury just a few weeks back and has won each of her last two matches, while Weatherhead is on a three-match win streak.
In conference play, Burger (7-4) led the Chants with seven wins combined at the No. 3 and 4 spots, while Hollins (6-1), Babayan (6-3), and Steryous (6-3) all recorded six singles victories versus Sun Belt opponents.
In doubles play, the team of Babayan and Hopton are among the Sun Belt Conference leaders with 15 overall wins on the season and posted five wins in conference play, while the duo of Hollins and De Samucewicz has gone 13-2 overall on the year and lead the conference with an 8-2 record in Sun Belt action.
Not to be overlooked, the tandem of Burger and Steryous have gone 12-5 overall over the spring season, with 10 of those wins coming at the No. 2 position and four in Sun Belt Conference play.
Arkansas State enters the conference championship tournament with a 2-17 overall record and an 0-11 mark in regular-season conference action.
The Red Wolves have lost three consecutive matches entering the week and have dropped 12 of their last 13 contests, with the lone win coming at Lindenwood on April 12.
The winner of the match will move on to the quarterfinals to take on the winner of No. 6 Marshall and No. 11 ULM in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 27, at 2 p.m. ET.
