NORFOLK, Va. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team concluded its four-match road trip on Sunday afternoon, falling on the road at No. 68 nationally-ranked Old Dominion 6-1 in Norfolk, Va.
The loss dropped the Chanticleers to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the Sun Belt, while with the win, the Monarchs moved to 14-9 overall and 6-1 in conference action.
With the loss, the Chants went 0-4 over the four-match road swing.
Despite the team of
Steve Mundt and
Lucas Wayenburg leading 5-3 over ODU's pair of Jakob Cadonau and Luca Maldoner on court No. 1, the Chanticleers dropped the doubles point to the home-standing Monarchs with losses on courts No. 2 and 3.
In singles play, the Monarchs scored wins on courts No. 2, 5, and 3, winning in straight sets on all three courts to pick up the match win with a 4-0 lead.
On court No. 1, CCU's
Carlos Berna Ruiz finished off Francois Le Tallec in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to earn the singles win and put the visiting Chants on the scoreboard at 4-1.
However, the next two matches would go in favor of the Monarchs to put the final score at 6-1.
The Chanticleers will wrap up the regular-season slate at home on April 15-16. CCU will host South Alabama for Senior Day on Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. ET and will then return to the courts to host Troy on Sunday, April 16, at 10 a.m. ET.
