Chants Commence Regular Season Against UNCW

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team is set to commence the 2023 regular season at the CCU Soccer Stadium on Aug. 16. The Chants will face the UNC Wilmington Seahawks at 7 p.m. ET.
 
Chant Talk
  • This is the first of 10 home matches that will be played at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
  • CCU will be looking to improve on its 3-10-4 overall record that was posted in 2022.
  • Coastal welcomes new women's soccer head coach Jo Chubb to the Chanticleer family. Chubb has 10 years of collegiate coaching experience and has joined CCU after six years at Arizona State where she helped lead the team to two NCAA DI Championship Tournament Appearances as the assistant coach.
  • CCU also welcomes new assistant coach Steven Samuel who served as a volunteer assistant coach at Old Dominion prior to making the move to Coastal. Samuel helped lead the Lady Monarchs to the 2022 SBC Tournament Championship title.
  • The fresh faces continue with new assistant coach David Oakes joining in July. Oakes recently graduated from James Madison where he served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the women's soccer team.
  • Since the creation of the program in 2000, the Chants have posted a 9-11-2 record in season-opening matches.
 
Last Time Out
  • The Chants played two exhibition matches versus The Citadel and Charleston Southern during their build-up to the regular season.
  • Freshman Emily Petring has got off to a flying start, bagging a goal in both matches for the Chants.
  • Senior Raegan Meyer tallied CCU's lone assist throughout the two matches.
 
History Against
  • The Chants have posted a 1-13 all-time series record versus UNCW.
  • Their last matchup came in 2022, when the Chants fell short 3-1 with current junior Rose Behrmann snagging the one goal for CCU.
  • CCU's lone win came on foreign soil back in 2010, when the Chants scored a late winner in the 88th minute after coming from behind 2-0 to take the win 3-2.
  • Coastal's first matchup with the Seahawks came during its first year of operation in 2010.
