CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Sandy Fowler has announced the addition of
Seandell Davis as an assistant coach for both the men's & women's track & field teams.
"Seandell is an exceptional coach that brings knowledge, energy, and experience to our program. He has had a lot of success at the NCAA Division II level and is a very well respected coach in the track & field community," stated Fowler. "We look forward to working alongside him as he continues the tradition of winning with our sprint and hurdles program."
Davis comes to Coastal following four years as the associate head coach for the track & field teams at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he worked with the sprint, jumps, and pole vault groups.
As the associate head coach at LR, Davis was in charge of recruiting, monitored the academic performance and general well-being of the student-athletes, assisted the student-athletes with community service projects, provided instruction and development for the sprints and pole vault groups, analyzed student-athlete performance, and prepared the student-athletes for the highest levels of competition.
Over the 2023 outdoor season, Lenoir-Rhyne had two individuals in Dario Matau (men's 200 meters) and Alexis Brown (women's 100-meters) record runner-up finishes at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while as a team, the Bears picked up All-American honors across six events (men's 100-meters, men's 200-meters, men's 4x400-meter relay, women's 100-meters, women's 200-meters, women's 110-meter hurdles).
The Bears' men's team finished 19th overall at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while the women's team placed 23rd overall in the team standings.
LR also had a program record of 20 student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Region team. The 20 athletes earned accolades across 37 events and helped the Bears to one of the most successful seasons in program history.
During the 2023 indoor track & field season, Brown was the NCAA Division DII National Champion and record holder in the 200-meters with a time of 23.25, while Matau was the runner-up in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meters at the indoor national championships as well.
A 2014 graduate of Robert Morris University, Davis began his coaching career as the head track & field coach at Joliet West High School from 2013-19.
