Chants Ready for Home Matchup Versus Charlotte

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will take on the Charlotte 49ers in its second home match of the season at the CCU Soccer Stadium on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET.

CHANT TALK
  • First-year head coach Jo Chubb secured her first collegiate win as a head coach after beating UNCW 1-0 in the season opener on Aug. 17.
  • The match this week is the second match of a four-match home stand that will conclude with North Dakota State next Thursday, Aug. 31.
  • The Chants had six players make their debut in the teal and bronze in the season opener last time out, which included freshmen Emily Petring and Sofia Vinasco, along with four transfers in Vivienne CarrNatalie YooRami Rapp, and Sarah Soraghan.
  • Freshman Petring is making her mark for the Chanticleer squad after she notched her first official goal versus UNCW last Thursday. She also bagged a goal in each exhibition match versus The Citadel and Charleston Southern during the build-up to the regular season.

LAST TIME OUT
  • CCU took down UNC Wilmington 1-0 on Aug. 17.
  • The win was just the second time in program history that the Chants have beaten UNCW, with their last win coming over 10 years ago back in 2010.
  • Freshman Petring scored the only goal for Coastal at the penalty spot to give the Chants the win. Sophomore Tamlyn Parkes drew the foul to give Coastal the goal-scoring opportunity, but freshman Petring was called up to the spot and held her nerve to tally her first collegiate goal in her debut.
  • Goalkeeper Carr had a standout performance with six saves in the match to record her first clean sheet while wearing the teal and bronze.

HISTORY AGAINST
  • The Chants have a 1-2 overall record versus Charlotte.
  • The first encounter came back in 2014, when the Chants took a 2-1 victory in overtime off a throw-in set play in the 94th minute.
  • Coastal last faced the 49ers in 2022 where the team suffered a 2-1 loss on the road. However, sophomore Julia Ziegenfuss recorded an assist in the matchup.
  • CCU will be looking to add to its 1-0 home record versus Charlotte.
  • A minimum of three goals have been scored in each matchup versus Charlotte, with the 49ers having outscored the Chants 7-4.
