Chants Hit the Road to Face No. 13 South Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will hit the road to face the No. 13 South Carolina in its first away contest of the season. The Chants will take on USC at the Eugene E. Stone III Soccer Stadium on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. ET.

Chant Talk

  • After four home matches, this will be Coastal's first road match of the season
  • Emily Petring leads the team with two goals on the season. The freshman is also atop of the team with 11 shots on the year.
  • Transfer Natalie Yoo is the only other Chant to bag a goal on the season when she buried the ball from the penalty spot in Coastal's 2-0 shutout over the College of Charleston Cougars (Aug. 27)
  • The Chants have yet to score a goal in the opening half but have a 2-1 record when scoring first.

Last Time Out

  • The Chants fell to 2-2 on the season after suffering a 1-0 defeat to the North Dakota State Bison on Thursday night.
  • Coastal was the aggressor on the match outshooting the Bison 13-8 while forcing the NDSU keeper to make eight saves to Coastal's two.
  • CCU's leading goal scorer Petring looked to add one more goal to her two on the season as she led the field with six shots, five of which were on goal.
  • Vivienne Carr made two saves on the night including a close-range reaction stop from the six-yard box at the 44th minute to hold the score at 0-0 going into the second half.

Scouting the Opponent

  • The No. 13 Gamecocks have posted a 4-0-1 record on the year.
  • USC is sitting on a four-match win streak after tying its first matchup versus No. 25 Clemson in its season opener.
  • USC ranks 31st in the nation with 13 goals to Coastal's three.
  • Coastal's defense will need to be ready for the attacking prowess of the Gamecocks as they place 24th in the NCAA with 19 shots per game.
  • Raegan Schubach leads the team with four goals and one assist on the season but six other Gamecocks have each tallied at least one goal on the year.
  • Heather Hinz has a perfect 4-0 record in goal and has recorded nine saves in her 405 minutes of playing time.

History Against

  • This will be the Chants' fourth matchup versus the Gamecocks with USC leading the series 3-0.
  • Last time out in March 2021, the Chants suffered a 3-0 loss with the Gamecocks outshooting Coastal 28-3.
  • Their first encounter came in 2015 with the Chants falling short 3-2 after attempting to recover from a 3-0 deficit.
