OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Coastal Carolina's
Clayton Isbell was named to the Thorpe Award National Player of the Week Honorable Mention, the Thorpe Award committee announced Thursday afternoon.
The Utah transfer tied a school-record with three interceptions to open the season at UCLA. He also tied for game-high honors in tackles with nine, five of which were solo.
The super-senior became one of four Chants with three interceptions in a single game, joining former CCU standouts
Dontavius Johnson (vs. North Carolina A&T, Sept. 1, 2012),
Josh Norman (vs. Gardner-Webb, Nov. 7, 2009), and
Marrio Norman (vs. Presbyterian, Oct. 20, 2007).
At the end of the season, the Thorpe Award is awarded to the best defensive back in college football based on performance on the field, athletic ability and character. The award was established in 1986 and is named after history's greatest all-around athlete, Jim Thorpe.
