Stefansson Named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Coastal Carolina men's soccer student-athlete Gudjon Stefansson was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
This marks the first time the Chants have had a Player of the Week selection since Noe Santos won on Nov. 3, 2022.
Stefansson had a stellar week for the Chants, recording the game-winning assist to lift CCU to a 1-0 victory over Campbell and helping Coastal keep a clean sheet over No. 8 James Madison on Saturday.
The Keflavik, Iceland, native held the Dukes to six shots on goal and the Fighting Camels to just four shots on goal from the backline last week. Stefansson played the full 90 minutes in both matches to secure two shutouts for the Chants.
The Chanticleers will be back in action at the CCU Soccer Complex to take on the No. 3 Marshall Thundering Herd on Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. ET.
