LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Ky. on Sunday evening.
With the loss, the Chants fall to 3-9-2, 1-4-2 Sun Belt record while Kentucky improves to 4-5-5, 3-2-2 Sun Belt on the season.
The Wildcats were first to strike in the fifth minute of play when Logan Dorsey hammered a penalty kick into the bottom right corner to give Kentucky a 1-0 lead.
Coastal looked to level the score in the eighth minute when a clearance attempt met the feet of Jason Kemble, who fired a shot from outside the box. However, the attempt pulled just wide to hold the score at 1-0.
In the 15th minute, Kentucky doubled its lead when Dorsey netted his second goal of the match off an assist from Martin Soereide to make the score 2-0.
The Wildcats continued to attack the CCU defense when Oliver Stavel made a quick turn in the box and kicked the ball through the legs of Coastal keeper Tristan Himes to increase the deficit to 3-0.
Each team took three shots apiece in the remaining 25 minutes of the frame, with the Chants forcing two saves out of the Kentucky keeper.
Lincoln Ulrich and Doug Hainer took back-to-back shots-on-goal in the 55th minute to try and ignite the Coastal offense, but both attempts were dealt with swiftly to keep the score at 3-0.
Kentucky's Logan Dorsey scored his third goal to notch a hat trick in the 63rd minute and the Wildcats added another goal in the 76th minute to secure the 5-0 victory.
The Chanticleers will remain on the road to take on No. 12 West Virginia on Oct. 31 in Morgantown, W.Va. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
