CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball program will be back home to host Jacksonville State on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. ET.
THE SERIES
The two teams have only met twice on the hard wood with each team picking up a win on its home court. The first game was in 2004 in Conway, an 88-78 CCU win. The next season the teams met in Jacksonville, Ala., where the Gamecocks won 82-71.
ABOUT THE CHANTS
CCU enters the contest with a 1-2 record with both losses coming on the road at East Carolina (63-59) and at 2024 Final Four participant North Carolina State (82-70).
Rasheed Jones continues to lead the Chants in scoring averaging 17.3 points per game.
Jordan Battle and
Denzel Hines are averaging 10.0 points each.
Hines leads the team in rebounding averaging 7.3, while Battle has eight assists and
Noah Amenhauser has a team-best five steals and three blocked shots.
Defense has been the Chants strength through the early part of the season as the opposition is only scoring 67.0 points per game and is only shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 15.9 percent on their three-point attempts.
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE
JSU enters today's game with a 2-1 record and are coming off a 72-67 win over Sun Belt Conference member Georgia State. The Gamecocks trailed 63-50 with just over seven minutes left in the game, but used a 22-4 run over the final minutes to pull out the win.
The Gamecocks lone loss was on the road at Air Force (73-67).
JSU enters the game averaging 83.7 points per game while only allowing 62.7 and have four players averaging in double figures led
By Jaron Pierre who averages 24.0 points per game. Other double-digit scorers are Jamar Franklin (13.3), Michael Houge (12.7),
and Mason Nicholson (11.0).
JSU is averaging 48 rebounds per game led by Houge who is completing a double-double by averaging 11.7 per game. Nicolson is
also averaging a double-double with 10.0 rebounds per game.
JSU is shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 30.1 percent on its three-point attempts...They are also very good at the free throw
line knocking down 83.3 percent of their charity tosses. Defensively, JSU is allowing its opponents 34.8 percent shooting from the
field and 28.1 percent on their three-point attempts, while out rebounding the opponents by 15 per game.
