Women’s Soccer Heads South for Sun Belt Championship Tournament

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will take on No. 2-seed South Alabama in the 2024 Sun Belt Women's Soccer Championship tournament on Nov. 4 in Foley, Al. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.

Chant Talk
  • The Chants closed out the regular season with a 7-6-6, 3-3-4 Sun Belt record.
  • This is the first time since 2020 that Coastal has secured seven wins in a season and the first time since 2020 that CCU has had a .500 conference record.
  • Coastal has netted 20 goals on the season which is the most scored since 2019.
  • Freshman Eleanor Ashton was named to the 2024 All-Sun Belt Conference second team on Sunday. Ashton tops the team with eight goals and is one of just four players in the NCAA to record a goal in five straight matches.
  • Coastal was predicted to finish 12th in the Sun Belt preseason coaches' poll but exceeded expectations and finished in seventh.
  • The Chants have a perfect 5-0-0 record when leading at halftime and post a 7-0-4 record when scoring first.
Last Time Out
  • • The Chants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Georgia State.
  • • The Panthers' Aaliyah Faddoul scored a penalty kick to give Georgia State the lead in the 29th minute and doubled the lead in the 51st minute to record a brace.
  • • Junior Madison Micheletti narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the 87th minute on an assist by Tamlyn Parkes, but time ran out before Coastal could net an equalizer.
  • • CCU was outshot 8-7 and out fouled its opponent for just the second time this season, 8-5
Scouting the Opponent
  • South Alabama concluded the regular season with a 10-5-3, 5-2-3 Sun Belt record, which secured the No. 2-seed in the 2024 Sun Belt Women's Soccer Championship tournament.
  • The Jaguars are coming off a 2-2 tie versus the regular-season champions, James Madison. 
  • South Alabama had two players in Irene Campo and Kate Nicolson named to the all-conference first team and Campo also earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year honors. 
  • Campo tops the team with 12 goals on the year which ranks her tied for 17th in the NCAA.
  • The Jaguars average 12.1 shots per match and post a 0.463 shots-on-goal percentage on the year.
History Against
  • Coastal has a 2-9-0 record versus South Alabama.
  • The Chants have been shut out in their last three encounters with the Jaguars.
  • CCU will be looking to pick up its first win in postseason play versus South Alabama to improve on its 0-2 record.
  • Coastal picked up its first win in September 2018, beating the Jaguars 1-0 in double overtime.
