CONWAY, S.C. – The longest running CCU men's basketball series continues when the Chanticleers travel to Rock Hill, S.C. for a date with the Eagles of Winthrop on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. ET.
THE SERIES
It will be the 87th meeting between the programs which began in 1978. CCU holds a 45-41 lead in the series with 14 of those wins coming on the Eagles home court.
The Chants have won three of the last four games, with the Eagles winning 90-87 in Conway last season.
ABOUT THE CHANTS
CCU has scored 514 points on the season and has also allowed 514 points this season. The Chants are led in scoring by Rasheed
Jones at 12.3 points per game and
Noah Amenhauser is averaging 11.0 points per game. Jones continues to be one of the top three point shooters in the Sun Belt and the nation. At the start of the week he was leading the Sun Belt Conference and was 10th nationally knocking down 52.6 percent of his three-point field goals.
CCU is grabbing 37.3 rebounds per game with
Denzel Hines and Amenhauser both averaging 6.9 per game.
The Chanticleers' defense continues its outstanding play as the opposition is only shooting 39.1 percent from the field and an even
worse 22.5 percent on its three-point field goals. CCU entered the week as the Sun Belt Conference's leader in three-point defense and was second in the nation in that statistic.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
The Eagles enter tonight's action with a 7-3 record and have won three consecutive games and four of their last five, with the only
loss during those five games being a 76-61 loss at Louisville.
Winthrop has a high-powered offense averaging 84.2 points per game with three players average over 14 points per contest including Kasen Harrison (14.4), Kelton Talford (14.3) and KJ Doucet (14.3). Harrison has a team-best 34 assists, while Talford leads the team in rebounds averaging 7.7 per game and Doucet averages 6.0. Nick Johnson and Talford each have a team-high 15 steals, while Tai Hamilton comes off the bench has 13 blocked shots.
The Eagles shoot 44.7 percent from the field, 28.2 percent on their three-point attempts and 66.0 percent at the free throw line.
Defensively Winthrop is allowing 71.4 points per game and their opponents are only shooting 40.5 percent from the field. Winthrop's aggressive defense is out rebounding their opponents by over six per game and has forced 175 turnovers while picking up 95 steals.
