CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina softball team surrendered zero hits on day two of the Kickin' Chicken Classic, getting a combined no-hitter from Raelee Brabham and Kaitlin Ryan and a perfect game from Nicolette Picone en route to a 6-0 win over George Washington and a 10-0 victory against Bucknell on Saturday at St. John Stadium.
Game 1: George Washington 0, Coastal Carolina 6
In the first game of the day, Brabham and Ryan stymied the Revolutionaries as Brabham earned her second victory of the weekend, striking out eight in 5.2 innings of work. The two combined to allow just one of George Washington's final 14 batters to reach base.Â
The game was scoreless entering the fourth inning, but Iyanla De Jesus reached on a one-out single and a two-run homer from Maddy Jennings broke the deadlock to give Coastal a 2-0 lead.
The Chanticleers doubled their lead in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles from Lucy Goodwin and Riley Zana to move ahead 4-0.
De Jesus put the punctuation on the win in the sixth inning, following Georgia Hood's one-out walk with a two-run blast to make the score 6-0 Chants.
Game 2: Bucknell 0, Coastal Carolina 10
Coastal's power surge continued in its second game as Delaney Keith opened the bottom of the first with leadoff homer to put the Chanticleers up 1-0 on the Bison. After a walk to De Jesus, Indya Smith blasted a two-run shot to put CCU up 3-0 entering the second inning.
Keith pushed Coastal's advantage to 4-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, then scored with Zana on a throwing error as the Chants moved ahead 6-0.
The offensive onslaught continued in the bottom of the third as Hope McDonald doubled home Smith and came around to score on an RBI single from Libby Pippen to give the Chanticleers an eight-run cushion.
De Jesus left the yard for the second time on the day in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 9-0. Keirstin Roose then pushed the lead to double digits with an RBI triple to plate Ava Brooke Strickland and close out the game 10-0.
Picone was untouchable in the circle as only two balls left in the infield the entire night. The junior from Bethpage, N.Y., recorded five strikeouts in her historic outing.Â
The Chanticleers will look to finish the weekend undefeated when they tangle with Campbell at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.
