CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball program will be back home to face Georgia Southern on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. ET, and Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. ET at the HTC Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers fell in a Sun Belt Conference road contest at ULM, 79-75.
Jacob Meyer led four Chants in double figures with 18 points.
Kylan Blackmon added 16, while freshman
Braeden MacVicar scored a career-high 15 points on five three-point field goals.
John Ojiako picked up his SBC-leading 14th double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
THE SERIES
vs. Georgia Southern
This will be the 20
th time the two teams have met on the hard court and the second time this season. Georgia Southern owns a 10-9 edge in the series and has won the last four times the teams have met, including a close 73-70 outing in Statesboro back in January.
The series started back in 1995 with the two teams playing once in 1995, once in 1997, and twice in 2009. CCU won all four of those games.
CCU joined the Sun Belt Conference for the 2016-17 season and Georgia Southern has won 10 of the 15 games since then, including a four-game winning streak from 2018-2020 and the current four-game winning streak that dates back to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 2022.
vs. Marshall
These two teams have only played three times since the Herd joined the Sun Belt Conference at the start of last season. Marshall has won all three outings including a 91-74 victory on its homecourt on Feb. 3.
ABOUT THE CHANTS
CCU enters the game with a 6-17 record overall and 3-9 in Sun Belt Conference action.
Meyer has moved into the team-lead in scoring averaging 14.0 points per game. He is second on the team in rebounding (4.9 rpg), assists (57), and in steals (24).
Ojiako is averaging 12.7 points per game and leads the conference and is eighth nationally with 14 double-doubles. He also leads the Sun Belt and is 13th nationally in rebounding averaging 10.6 per game.
Blackmon is averaging 11.0 points per game and has a team-leading 40 three-point field goals on the season.
ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
After starting the season 0-12, the Eagles have won five games once conference play started. They enter Thursday's action tied for eighth in the conference standings with a 5-7 conference record and 5-20 overall.
Tyren Moore is the lone Eagle averaging double figures at 15.2 points per game. Eren Banks and Russell Dean are both averaging 9.9 points per game. Banks (19) and Moore (17) were the leading scorers for Georgia Southern when they defeated the Chants earlier this season.
ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall enters the week tied for fifth in the Sun Belt with a 7-5 record, and only three games out of first. The Herd is 12-13 overall.
Obinna Anochili-Killen leads four players in double-digits averaging 16.6 points per game. Kevon Voyles averages 13.8 per game followed by Kamdyn Curfman (13.2) and Nate Martin (11.2).
Anochili-Killen scored 30 points against the Chants just two weeks ago, while Voyles had 26 in the win. They were the only two players to reach double-digit scoring the game for Marshall.
