Chants Fall Twice on Day Two of The Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LEESBURG, Fla. -The Coastal Carolina softball team (4-4) dropped both of its games on day two of The Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla. The Chants suffered a 6-0 defeat to the Ohio State Buckeyes and a 6-2 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Game 1: Ohio State 6, Coastal 0

Ohio State's leadoff batter Kaitlyn Farley got the ball rolling for the Buckeyes in the bottom of the first inning when she laced a single to left center field. A sacrifice bunt and a pair of wild pitches then allowed her to cross home plate to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead.

The Buckeyes opened the top of the second inning with a leadoff single by Kirsten Eppele who reached second on a flyout on the following play. Ohio State's Taylor Heckman then knocked a single to left field which allowed Eppele to reach home to put the Buckeyes up 2-0.

CCU's freshman pitcher Abby Henderson made her debut in the circle in the bottom of the third inning but gave up two runs to double the Buckeyes lead 4-0.

The runs kept coming for the Buckeyes in the bottom of the fifth inning when Hannah Church drove in Jasmyn Burns on an RBI triple and went on to score herself after a CCU fielding miscue allowed her to cross home plate to make the score 6-0.

Raelee Brabham dropped to 3-2 after giving up two runs off three hits in her 2.0 innings of work in the circle.

Game 2: Penn State 6, Coastal 2

The Nittany Lions drew first blood in the top of the third inning when Haylie Brunson belted an RBI single to left center field to make the score 1-0. Penn State's Gaby Garcia immediately followed with a two-run double down the left-field line to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Chants responded in the bottom of the third inning when Iyanla De Jesus ripped a two-run single to drive in Sydney Montoya and Hope McDonald to narrow the gap to 3-2.

Penn State applied pressure on the Chants in the top of the fourth inning when back-to-back walks and a single loaded the bases. Emily Maddock then smashed a three-run triple to right field to regain control at 6-2.

The Nittany Lions held Coastal to just one hit in the next three innings to take the 6-2 victory.

Nicolette Picone dropped to 1-2 on the season, giving up five runs off five hits during her 3.0 innings of work.

The Chanticleers will close out The Spring Games versus the Iowa Hawkeyes at 10 a.m. ET tomorrow.
