CLEMSON, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team faced its first road test of the 2024 season today with a trip to Clemson, S.C. in 16-5 loss to the Clemson Tigers at the Clemson Lacrosse Complex.
The Chants entered today's game 1-1 after opening weekend with a narrow 10-9 loss to Vermont and a dominant 21-5 win over Wofford. Clemson entered as heavy favorites and 2-0 on the season, previously defeating Davidson and Furman.
Scoreless after the opening five minutes of play, Clemson's Emma Tilson opened the scoring account for the Tigers with her first goal of the season from a free position attempt inside of 10 minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The Tigers later doubled their lead by way of goal from Shannon Brazier's second goal of the season, with the assist credited to Hanna Hilcoff. Clemson led by four after the opening 15 minutes, with another goal contribution from Tilson, along with Regan Byrne's seventh goal on the year.

Bethany Bruck put Coastal on the board with 10:55 to play in the second period with her third goal of the season, with sophomore
Alyson Mascolo later doubling their score. Clemson closed out the first half on an 8-1 run, entering the halftime break leading 13-2, outshooting the Chants 26-8.
Less than two minutes after the break, Mascolo doubled her scoring total on the day, slipping it past goalkeeper Emily Lamparter, with the assist coming from senior midfielder
Avery Snyder. Coming off Coastal's second free position attempt of the day, senior
Sydney McClure netted her fifth goal of the season, putting the Chants back to within 10 with 4:46 remaining in the third.
The Tigers scored two more in the final 15 minutes of play. Junior midfielder
Devin Rybacki finalized the game's scoring account with her first goal in 2024 with just 45 seconds remaining in the game.
CCU finished with five goals on 18 attempts, including two free position goals. Goalkeeper
Charlotte Sadler recorded 14 saves, playing all 60 minutes. Mascolo led the Chants on the scoresheet with two goals in as many attempts. Senior midfielder
Avery McIlwaine finished with a stat line of one shot on target, three ground balls and a forced turnover.
Next up for the Chants is a trip north to Davidson, N.C., as they take on the Davidson Wildcats on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 P.M. ET.
