Men's Basketball Falls at Marshall

Meyer and Ojiako combine for 42 points

Huntington, W.Va. – Jacob Meyer scored 22 points and John Ojiako added 20, but it wasn't enough as Marshall defeated Coastal Carolina 91-74 in Sun Belt Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Henderson Center.
 
Just one game after scoring 20 points at James Madison, Meyer bested that with a career-high 22 points on seven-of-12 shooting, including two three-point field goals and hitting six of his eight free throws.
 
Ojiako tied his career-high with 20 points and picked up his 13th career double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds. Ojiako was nine-of-12 from the field and added a couple of free throws.
 
Kevin Easley also reached double-digit scoring with 10 points and collected seven rebounds.
 
The Chants shot 45.3 percent (29-64) from the field, but only 22.2 percent (4-18) on its three-point attempts and 60.0 percent (12-20) from the free throw line in moving to 6-16 overall and 3-8 in the Sun Belt Conference.
 
The Herd built a 48-32 halftime lead behind 52.9 percent (18-34) shooting from the field and added eight first half three-point field goals. It was a lead the Chants could not overcome despite shooting 55.2 percent (16-29) from the field in the second half.
 
The duo of Obinna Anochili-Killen and Kevon Voyles carried the Herd by scoring 56 of Marshall's 91 points. Anochili-Killen scored a game-high 30 points, while Voyles finished with 26. Anochili-Killen was 9-of-17 from the field, three-of-seven on his three-point attempts and added nine-of-10 free throws. He added a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Voyles hit 10-of-18 from the field and five-of-11 three-point field goals.
 
Marshall finished the game shooting 50.8 percent (32-63) from the field, 37.8 percent (14-37) on its three-point attempts, and 68.4 percent (13-19) at the free throw line in moving to 12-12 overall and 7-4 in conference action.
 
The Chants will complete its season-high three-game road swing with a visit to Monroe, La., to face ULM Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
