MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a six-over 294 to finish tied for eighth after the opening round of The General James Hackler Championship, played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Jack Lee shot an even-par 72 (35-37) to lead the Chants on the opening day of action. The freshman had a consistent round consisting of two birdies and two bogeys. His par 3 scoring of 2.75 was tied for the third best par 3 scoring and his 4.00 scoring on par 4s was tied for 10th, while his 14 pars are tied for the most after the first round. Lee is tied for 13th heading into Tuesday's second round.
Seth Taylor shot a one-over 73 (39-34) and that included a strong back nine in which he collected three birdies in four holes and was two-under on the second nine holes. He had a 2.75 scoring average on the par 3s which was tied for third on the day and his four total birdies in the opening round were tied for eighth. He is tied for 22nd after today's action.
Trey Crenshaw finished the day tied for 33rd after carding a two-over 74 (38-36) and
Owen Kim was tied for 47th at three-over 75 (38-37).
Garrett Cooper shot a four-over 76 (37-39) in the opening round and is tied for 54th.
Trace McDonald,
Connor Bennink, and
Ludvig Eriksson all played as individuals. McDonald finished tied for 33rd with a two-over 74 (36-38), while Bennink was tied for 68th with a six-over 78 (37-41) and Eriksson finished tied for 76th with a nine-over 81 (41-40).
Only 10 strokes separate the top 11 teams as Louisville and Chattanooga finished the opening day tied for lead after shooting a two-under 286. East Tennessee State is third just one shot back at one-under 287. The College of Charleston and UNCW are tied for fourth after each carded an even-par 288.
Liberty is sixth at two-over 290, with Furman seventh at four-over 292. North Florida is tied for eighth with the Chants at six-over 294, while Little Rock and San Francisco are tied for 10th at eight-over 296.
The rest of the field includes Western Carolina (+11, 299), Kent State (+12, 300), and Charleston Southern (+20, 308).
