LAFAYETTE, La. – The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped the final game of the series, 3-1, to the No. 21/23 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette, La., on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Chants fall to 18-14, 1-5 Sun Belt and Louisiana improves to 21-13, 6-0 Sun Belt.
Louisiana's Mihyia Davis kicked off the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff single through the right side and advanced to second on a ground out. The outfielder then stole third and came around to score on a CCU miscue to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 1-0 lead.
It was a pitching duel for the following four innings with Raelee Brabham pitching two 1-2-3 innings and stranding four on base while Lousiana's Sam Landry and Chloe Riassetto combined for seven strikeouts and no hits to keep the score at 1-0.
The Ragin' Cajuns added two runs to their total in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brooke Ellestad hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Dayzja Williams and Sam Roe was called safe on an obstruction call at home plate to make the score 3-0.
The Chants broke up the no-hitter in the top of the seventh inning when Iyanla De Jesus and Maddy Jennings cracked back-to-back singles. Georgia Hood then stepped up to the plate and smashed a sacrifice fly into right field to score pinch runner Ally Wojciechowski, but the Ragin' Cajuns secured the final out to take the 3-1 win.
Brabham dropped to 12-7 after giving up three runs and six hits in her 6.0 innings of work in the circle.
The Chanticleers will remain on the road as they take on the Georgia Southern Eagles in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on March 28-30 in Statesboro, Ga.
