CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (7-10, 2-3 SBC) defeated James Madison (7-12, 0-7 SBC) today in a 4-3 thriller over the Dukes in part one of a Sun Belt double feature this weekend at the Stevens Tennis Complex. 

The Chants took the early lead after claiming the opening doubles point with pairings Ryuya Ata and Maj Tomac and Rivers Cahill and Eric Tripathi both securing a 6-3 victory. No. 1 seed Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg's match vs. JMU's top doubles team Esteve Agusti and Julian Lozano was left unfinished at 5-3. 

Coastal led 3-0 after winning the third and sixth-seeded matches with Wayenburg beating JMU's Agusti 6-3, 6-3, and Tripathi also defeating Edson Sanchez 6-3, 6-3. After going down 3-0, the Dukes rattled off three straight wins in the first, second and fifth-seeded matches, each coming in the third set. The final point came down to the fourth-seeded matchup between Tomac and JMU's Markus Giersiepen. Tomac dropped the first set 6-2 but came back and won the following set 6-4. In the third and final set, the match was tied at five apiece after the first 10 games. Tomac would secure the outright victory for the Chants after claiming the matches' final two points to win 7-5. 

The win improves Coastal's conference record to 2-3 on the season with less than two weeks until the start of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Apr. 18 in Rome, Ga. 

Coastal will close out their conference home slate tomorrow, as they take on the Old Dominion Monarchs at 10 A.M. ET at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
