Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team dropped its opening two matches in Sun Belt Conference play to Southern Miss and Louisiana, the former a 4-1 loss in Hattiesburg, Miss. yesterday and the latter a 5-2 loss to Louisiana this afternoon.
Vs. Southern Miss
Southern Miss surrendered just two matches to the Chants on Wednesday, resulting in a 4-1 win for the Golden Eagles in each team's Sun Belt Conference opener. Senior Guilherme Toresan went a perfect 2-0 on the afternoon, besting Olimjon Nabiev and Saheb Sodhi 6-1 in doubles, along with senior Maj Tomac, and later defeated Sodhi again in singles 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Vs. Louisiana
On the second day on a SBC back-to-back, Coastal suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Thursday, dropping their overall record to 4-7. The Chants lost the opening doubles point with seniors Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg recording the lone win, defeating the Cajuns' Sacha Grandvincent and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez 6-4.
Berna Ruiz and Wayenburg were also the only Chants to record a singles win against the Cajuns. Berna Ruiz defeated Grandvincent 6-2 in a third set tiebreaker, and Wayenburg took down William Ribero 6-2, 6-2.
Louisiana secured their first conference win of the season following Sanchez Gonzalez's decisive victory in a 6-0 third set tiebreaker over CCU's Ryuya Ata. Coastal's next conference opportunity is on Mar. 29 at home against the Georga State Panthers.
The Chants are back at home on Saturday, Mar. 9 in a non-conference matchup with SCAD-Savannah at 1 P.M. ET at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
