Coastal Returns to Conference Play Against Queens on Saturday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team (9-4, 2-0 ASUN) is set for its third game in its current four-game road trip against the Queens Royals (8-5, 2-0 ASUN) tomorrow afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex in Charlotte, N.C.

History vs. Queens

The Chants and the Royals met for the first time in both programs' history last season, a game in which the Chants defeated Queens in a 20-10 win at Brooks Stadium.

About Coastal

The win over Vanderbilt on Wednesday gave Coastal their sixth consecutive win, including two in conference play against Lindenwood and Liberty. CCU improved to 9-4 on the season with just four games remaining in the regular season portion of the schedule prior to the start of the ASUN Conference Tournament on May 2.

Despite being outscored 6-5 in the second half in Nashville and the Commodores tying the game twice in the fourth quarter, the Chants never trailed in route to their second consecutive win on the road.

The Chants finished the game vs. Vandy with 10 goals on 23 total attempts, 18 on frame, along with one goal coming off a free position attempt. Senior Maddie Bates led the Chants on the scoresheet for the second straight game, recording her third hat-trick and her seventh multi-goal outing of the season. Bates has now scored nine goals in the last two games after scoring a career-high six in the win over Liberty. Leading goalscorers Sydney McClure and Monica Manley each added a brace, while Brigid Cardillo, Alyson Mascolo and Abi George each added one.

Defensively, Coastal picked up 17 ground balls, 16 draw controls and caused six turnovers. Goalkeeper Charlotte Sadler was forced to make six saves on 14 attempts on goal from the Commodores. Five Chants finished with double figures in the ground ball department with Devin Rybacki and Sydney Tornetta each finishing with three, and Cardillo, Avery Snyder and Jordan Gertz finishing with two.

Following their performances against Vandy, the Chants' top three goalscorers in McClure, Manley and Bates each improved their season tallies to 27, 25 and 23, respectively. Sadler now leads the ASUN in saves per game and save percentage and is second in average goals against.

The Chants will look to extend their winning streak to seven with a win in Charlotte to remain unbeaten in conference play.

About Queens

The Royals enter the weekend at 8-5 overall and a perfect 2-0 in conference play. Queens is currently tied with Coastal for second place in the Atlantic Sun behind first-place Jacksonville. The Royals have opened their conference schedule with back-to-back road wins over Kennesaw State on Mar. 30 and Liberty on Apr. 6.

Leading goalscorer Keyleen Favreau is up to 44 goals on the season, which is good for fourth among ASUN Conference leaders. On the defensive side, goalkeepers Caroline Kraemer and Gianna Coburn have combined for 119 total saves, placing them in second in the conference in both save percentage.

CCU vs. Queens will start tomorrow at 12 P.M. ET, streaming on ESPN+.
