RALEIGH, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team finish ninth at the Wolfpack Stitch Intercollegiate, with a final score of 55-over 907 (301-303-303) at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
Trey Crenshaw finished as the Chants' scoring leader after carding a three-round total of eight-over 221 (74-72-75). He picked up his tournament-best second eagle on the par-4 fourth hole and his 4.58 stroke average on the par 5 holes was tied for first. He finished the event tied for 15th.
Freshman
Jack Lee finished tied for 33rd after finishing with a 13-over 226 (74-76-76).
Trace McDonald (75-81-74) and
Owen Kim (78-79-73) both finished tied for 45th after finishing with a 17-over 230, while
Garrett Cooper finished tied for 59th with a 22-over 235 (78-79-78), and
Seth Taylor finished tied for 65th with a 24-over 234 (81-76-80). Kim tied for third for the most birdies in the event with 10.
High winds and high scores plagued the two-day event as the winds forced a suspension of play in Saturday's final round of two hours and 10 minutes before play was resumed. Host North Carolina State was able to win its event finishing with an 18-over 870. UNCG was the closest competitor finishing with a 23-over 875. Duke was third with a 34-over 886, followed by Georgia Southern at 35-over 887 and VCU with a 36-over 888 to round out the top five.
Boston College finished sixth at 40-over 892, while Kent State and High Point finished tied for seventh at 44-over 896. Behind the Chants' ninth-place finish were Oral Roberts (+61, 913), Navy (+105, 957), and North Carolina Central (+116, 968).
The Stitch Intercollegiate ends the regular season for the Chants. The next event will be the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship, scheduled for April 22-25 at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison Miss.
