Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team (9-14, 2-6 SBC) ended its season today with a 4-1 loss to the No. 1 seed Georgia Southern Eagles (14-8, 8-1 SBC) in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
The opening doubles point went to Georgia Southern after the Eagles won the second and third-seeded matches by scores of 6-4 and 6-3, respectively. The No. 1 seed matchup between CCU's Carlos Berna Ruiz and Ryuya Ata and Georgia Southern's Dimitrius Paliouras and Pol Del Castillo was left unfinished with Coastal leading 5-4.
In singles, the Eagles won five of the six first sets, putting the Chants on the brink of elimination entering the second frame. Freshman Juan Cruz Collardin came away with the lone first set victory for CCU, defeating Georgia Southern's Pierre Mouesca 7-5. In the second set, senior Lucas Wayenburg bested the Eagles No. 2 seed Del Castillo 7-6 to force a third set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell 6-2 in the final match. Georgia Southern would go on to win the first, second and sixth-seeded matchups to advance to the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals tomorrow, as they await the winner of South Alabama and Louisiana.
For the Chants, their season ends with a quarterfinal exit in the SBC Tournament, finishing the season at 9-14 overall and 2-6 in Sun Belt Conference play.
