CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team defeated the College of Charleston Cougars 8-0 in front of a season-high crowd of 625 fans at St. John Stadium on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 21-15 overall while CofC dropped to 8-23 on the year.
The Chants got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning when Iyanla De Jesus crushed a single to center field to drive in Riley Zana and put CCU up 1-0.
The Chants broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Georgia Hood blasted a two-run home run over the centerfield wall to make the score 3-0. Coastal then loaded the bases on a Brie Normandin double, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk, setting the stage for Zana to belt her third grand slam home run of the year and extend CCU's lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Maddy Jennings and Hood hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second base. Normandin then laced her second double of the game to right-center field to drive in pinch runner Livi Payne and give CCU the 8-0 run-rule win.
Raelee Brabham picked up her 15th win in the circle, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings while allowing one hit. Kaitlin Ryan earned her second career save after allowing two hits in her 2.0 innings of work.
The Chanticleers will be back in action at St. John Stadium for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series versus the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, April 5-7.
