CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team shut out the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 6-0 on Friday night at St. John Stadium.

With the win, the Chants improve to 22-15, 4-6 Sun Belt, while Southern Miss falls to 16-18 overall and 4-6 in league play.

It was a pitching duel in the opening two frames with each pitcher allowing one hit while recording a 1-2-3 inning.

The Chants' bats got hot in the bottom of the third when Brie Normandin and Libby Pippin each hit singles and Riley Zana reached on a walk to load the bases. Iyanla De Jesus then laced a two-run single to center field to give CCU a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jay Wrightsman kicked off the frame with a leadoff bunt single and used her speed to reach third base on a Normandin sacrifice bunt. Pinch hitter Lucy Goodwin then stepped into the batter's box and belted an RBI double to right-center field to put CCU up 3-0. Pippin followed suit, cracking an RBI double of her own to extend Coastal's lead to 4-0.

The runs kept coming for the Chants in the bottom of the sixth inning when Delaney Keith smashed an RBI single and De Jesus drove in her third RBI of the game with a double to give CCU a 6-0 victory.

Raelee Brabham added to her career-high wins mark with her 16th wins this season, pitching 7.0 scoreless innings while striking out eight batters.

The Chanticleers will be back in action tomorrow to take on the Golden Eagles at 2 p.m. ET.
