MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team finished fourth at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate after shooting a three-under 285 in Tuesday's final round at the Grande Dunes Golf Resort Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. CCU moved up one spot in the third round and finished its first tournament of the season with a 12-under 852 (280-287-285).
The Chants had three players finish in the top-10 led by
Owen Kim, who finished fifth with a seven-under 209 (68-70-71). He finished tied for eighth in the event with 13 birdies and his 2.83 scoring average on the par three holes was tied for third. He had a 3.93 scoring average on the par four holes which was tied for sixth and his 37 pars was tied for ninth.
Trey Crenshaw finished off his tournament tied for sixth with a six-over 210 (72-69-69). He led the event with 19 total birdies, while his 3.90 scoring average on the par four holes with tied for fourth.
Max Bengtsson finished off his first tournament as a Chanticleer tied for eighth after carding a six-under 210 (71-72-68). His four-under total in the final round was the Chants' best round of the final round. He led the tournament with a 4.25 scoring average on the par five holes and his 13 birdies tied him for eighth.
Drew Sykes, also playing in his first CCU event, finished tied for 24th with a one-under 215 (69-73-73). He had a 3.93 scoring average on the par four holes which was tied for sixth, while his 40 pars were tied for second.
Jack Lee finished 27th after finishing with an even-par 216 (72-71-73). He was seven-under on the par four holes with his 3.77 scoring average finishing second. He also finished the event tied for eighth with 13 birdies.
Trace McDonald finished tied for 37th with a three-over 219 (72-73-74), while
Coleman Ferguson (72-77-72) and
Max Brud (71-75-75) finished tied for 52nd with a five-over 221.
Ludvig Eriksson finished 85th with a 24-over 240 (80-78-82).
"A big thank you to everyone who contributed to a successful inaugural event and we look forward to hosting the event again next year," head coach
Jacob Wilner said.
The leaderboard continued to be tight throughout the final round, but Santa Clara won the inaugural event finishing 21-under 843 (279-284-280). Campbell was only three shots back at 18-under 846 (280-285-281). East Carolina finished just two strokes in front of CCU with a 14-under 850 (287-278-285). Following CCU to round out the top five was Elon at 11-under 853 (282-287-284).
The rest of the top-10 included Maryland (-5, 859), Florida Atlantic (-1, 863), Texas El Paso (+1, 865), Texas State (+3, 867), and James Madison (+11, 875).
Rounding out the field were Jacksonville (+18, 882), Western Carolina (+24, 888), Appalachian State (+31, 895), and Old Dominion (+47, 911).
The Chants will be back on the course Sept. 15-17 at the J.T. Poston Invitational at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club in Waynesville, N.C.
