Women's Golf Moves Up to Ninth After Second Round of Cardinal Cup

Kunkaew in top-10 after 36 holes

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team moved up two spots after shooting a 17-over 305 in Saturday's second round at the Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky. The Chants moved up two spots into ninth place with a two-round total of 36-over 612 (307-305).

Varatkarn Kunkaew continues to lead CCU in the event carding a two-round total of three-over 147 (73-74). She finished her round with three birdies over her final five holes, including back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 and is tied for 10th. Kunkaew's six birdies are tied for the seventh-most over the first two rounds.

Sara Sarrion had the Chants' top round of the day with an even-par 72 (35-37). She will enter the final round tied for 26th with a seven-over 151 (74-72). She is tied for the second-most birdies with seven and her 3.13 scoring average on the par three holes is tied for 10th.

Freshman Ella Murray is tied for 34th with a nine-over 153 (75-78), while Aoife Devaney (80-81) and Carolina Hortian (80-81) are tied for 70th with a 17-over 161. Murray is tied for third in par five scoring with a 4.88 scoring average.

Weather continues to be a major factor in the scores, as once again, none of the teams were able to break par in the second round. First round leader Rutgers continues to be at the top of the leaderboard at 12-over 588 (291-297), but Western Kentucky (297-291) was able to move up two spots and is now the co-leader with Rutgers at 12-over 588, heading into the final round.

Middle Tennessee is third at 15-over 591 (294-297) while East Carolina (302-294) and host Louisville (297-299) are tied for fourth at 20-over 596.

Mercer leads off the second five at 24-over 600 (301-299), while James Madison is seventh with a 32-over 608 (398-304). Cincinnati is in front of the Chants in eighth with a 32-over 608 (306-302) and Eastern Kentucky stands 10th at 38-over 614 (309-305).

The rest of the field includes Lipscomb (+39, 615), Evansville (+45, 621), Marshall (+46, 622), Toledo (+48, 624), and Bellarmine (+68, 644).
