WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a 1-under 279 in Sunday's opening round at the JT Poston Invitational at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club in Waynesville, N.C.
First-year Chanticleers
Max Bengtsson (35-34), and
Drew Sykes (34-35) shot a one-under 69 in Sunday's opening round to finish tied for sixth.
Owen Kim shot an even-par 70 (33-37) and is tied for 16th, while
Trey Crenshaw finished tied for 25th after carding a one-over 71 (33-38).
Jack Lee rounded out the Chants' scoring with a three-over 73 (36-37) and is tied for 36th.
Coleman Ferguson is participating as an individual and is tied for 25th after shooting a one-over 71 (35-36).
The par-70, 6,720-yard Waynesville Inn and Golf Club saw five of the teams shoot par or better in Sunday's action, led by Lipscomb's event-leading six-under 274.
Eastern Kentucky, at two-under 278, is one shot in front of the Chanticleers, while Drexel is fourth at even-par 280, and James Madison is fifth at one-over 281.
Kennesaw State, host Western Carolina, and Xavier are tied for sixth after shooting a two-over 282. Francis Marion and Georgia State are tied for ninth at seven-over 287. The rest of the field has Georgia Southern 11th at eight-over 288, followed by UTRGV (+11, 291), Wofford (+12, 292), Mercer (+15, 295), and Charleston Southern (+16, 296).
