WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team finished third at the JT Poston Invitational after shooting a four-over 284 in Tuesday's final round at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club in Waynesville, N.C. CCU had a final score of two-under 838 (279-275-284) on the par 70, 6,720-yard course.
Freshman
Drew Sykes was the team-leader all three rounds and completed his card with a six-under 204 (69-67-68). He was one of only two players to record a score in the 60's all three rounds and finished the Poston in second place.
Trey Crenshaw completed his tournament tied for 14th after scoring a one-over 211 (71-70-70), while
Max Bengtsson finished tied for 24th with a four-over 214 (69-69-76).
Owen Kim tied for 32nd with his five-over 215 (70-74-71) finish and
Jack Lee finished with a seven-over 217 (73-69-75) to finished tied 35th.
Coleman Ferguson, playing as an individual, finished 10-over 216 (71-71-78) and tied for 46th.
Lipscomb continued to hold their lead over the final 18 holes to finish the event with an 11-under 829 (274-269-266). Kennesaw State finished second, just one stroke in front of the Chants, with a three-under 837 (282-275-280). Host Western Carolina finished fourth behind the Chants with a one-under 839 (282-281-276), while Xavier rounded out the top five with a 13-over 853 (282-275-296).
Drexel (280-284-290) and James Madison (281-276-297) tied for sixth with a 14-over 854, Eastern Kentucky finished eighth at 17-over 857 (278-287-291), and Georgia State placed ninth at 25-over 865 (287-287-291).
Mercer and Wofford tied for 10th at +29, 869, followed by Georgia Southern (+31, 871), Francis Marion (+33, 873), UTRGV (+34, 874), and Charleston Southern (+49, 889).
The Chants will be back on the course Oct. 6-7 at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational at the West Bay Club in Estero, Fla.
