Women's Basketball Travels to Wilmington to Face UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Coastal Carolina women's basketball takes a short road trip to Wilmington, N.C. to face UNCW on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on FloSports as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.
 
ABOUT THE CHANTS
  • Coastal's offense exploded for a 111-53 win over Lees-McRae on Sunday, Nov. 9 for their first victory of the season.
  • The Chants scored the first nine points of the game to take an early advantage with the help of two made three-pointers by Tessa Grady. The Bobcats battled back to cut the deficit to 19-13 with 2:27 left, but Coastal would close on an 8-2 run to end the first period with a 27-15 lead.
  • Kinsea Grimes sparked the Chanticleer offense at the beginning of the second quarter by hitting three consecutive three-point shots to stretch the lead to 33. Grimes scored 11 points in the quarter and Coastal outscored the Bobcats 31-8 to take a 58-23 lead into halftime.
  • Coastal continued the offensive domination by outscoring Lees-McRae 53-30 across the final two quarters to complete their first victory of the season.
  • Tessa Grady finished with a career-high 23 points, shooting 57% from the field and 45% from three.
  • Coastal Carolina is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2024-25, going 23-9 (12-6 SBC) and reaching the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament and WNIT for the first time in program history.
  • Coastal's 23 wins last season were the second-most in program history behind their 25 wins in 2019-20. The Chants hit 240 3-pointers throughout the campaign, a new program record. 
  • Leading the 3-point charge last season was Kristin Williams, who led the Sun Belt with 82 made 3-pointers. Williams was named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team. 
  • After finishing fourth in the Sun Belt last season, the Chants were picked sixth in the preseason coaches poll, their highest preseason ranking since 2020.
  • The Chanticleers welcome 10 new players to the team in 2025-26, with three freshmen and seven transfers.
 
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
  • UNCW is currently 1-1, coming off a 78-68 win at N.C. Central on Friday.
  • Through the first two games, graduate student guard Rori Cox leads the team in scoring after putting up 10 points against ECU and 21 against N.C. Central.
  • The Seahawks are led by third-year head coach Nicole Woods, who led the team to a 14-18 record last season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Chants will be meeting the Seahawks for the 35th time, trailing in the series 11-23.
  • Coastal has won six games in a row over UNCW dating back to 2017.
  • Last season, Coastal grabbed a 96-64 win over UNCW on Dec. 18. Returning guard Kristin Williams scored 17 points in the victory.
 
TESSA TURNS IT UP
  • In her first three games for Coastal, junior forward Tessa Grady has emerged as the team's leading scorer, averaging 13 points per game.
  • Grady led the team in scoring against Miami (OH) with 13 and Lees-McRae with a career-high 23.
  • The Wisconsin transfer has started her season shooting 39% from the field and 30% from three.
 
COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable.
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
