Men's Golf Add Two Signees For 2026-27 Season

CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina men's golf program has bolstered its future with the addition of two standout signees, Payton Schmitt and Luke Splane, who have each signed national letters of intent to join the Chanticleers for the 2026–27 season, head coach Jacob Wilner announced Wednesday.

"We're excited to welcome Payton and Luke to Coastal Carolina," Wilner said. "Both have shown they can compete and win at a high level, but just as important, they're the kind of hard-working, high-character student-athletes we want representing our program. I'm confident they'll make an immediate impact and continue building on the culture we're creating here."

Schmitt, a native of Wake Forest, N.C., competes with the Sandhills Highlanders Homeschool Athletics program and has emerged as one of the Carolinas' premier junior golfers. Earlier this year, he placed 12th at the North Carolina High School Invitational in Durham, N.C., and finished 15th at the prestigious Scott Robertson Memorial in Roanoke, Va.

His breakout performance came during the summer of 2024, when he rallied from three shots back entering the final round to capture the 75th Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship at Mount Vintage Golf Club in Mount Vintage, S.C., clinching the title in a dramatic seven-hole playoff.

Splane, a standout from St. Augustine, Fla., has been a driving force for St. Augustine High School, helping lead the Yellow Jackets to a 10th-place team finish at the state championships last season while tying for 10th individually. On the Florida Junior Tour, he turned in a consistent campaign highlighted by three top-five and one top-10 finish during the 2024–25 season.

The Chanticleers will open their 2025–26 spring schedule on Feb. 2 at the Battle for Briars Creek on St. John's Island, S.C.
