HENDERSON, Nev. — Coastal Carolina turned in one of the low rounds of the day and climbed into a tie for fifth place after two rounds at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, held at Reflection Bay Golf Club.
The Chanticleers sit at 4-under 572 (292-280) through 36 holes, tying Austin Peay State for fifth in the 11-team field. Boise State leads the tournament at 11-under, followed by Louisiana at 10-under and Northern Illinois at 6-under.
Coastal's second-round 8-under 280 marked one of the best team scores of the day and fueled the Chants' move up the leaderboard.
Drew Sykes paced the lineup with rounds of 71-69 to stand at 4-under 140, tied for seventh individually. Sykes' 3-under 69 in the second round featured five birdies and positioned him firmly inside the top 10 entering the final round.
Max Bengtsson and
Jack Lee are both tied for 12th at 2-under 142. Bengtsson rebounded with a 2-under 70 in the second round, while Lee followed his opening-round 70 with an even-par 72.
Harrison James carded a 3-under 69 on Tuesday to make a 15-spot jump on the leaderboard and sits at 4-over 148 through two rounds.
Santiago Schele rounds out the Coastal lineup at 9-over 153.
The tournament concludes on Wednesday, with Coastal Carolina set to tee off beginning at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time. The Chanticleers will be paired with UC San Diego and Austin Peay State for the final round.
