HENDERSON, Nev. — Coastal Carolina opened its spring season Monday with a sixth-place showing after the first round of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate at Reflection Bay Golf Club.
The Chanticleers posted a team score of 4-over-par 292 and sit in the middle of the 11-team field after 18 holes. Boise State leads the tournament at 5-under, followed by Northern Illinois at 4-under and Texas State at 1-under. Coastal trails fourth-place Louisiana by three strokes entering Tuesday's second round.
Junior
Jack Lee paced Coastal Carolina with a 2-under 70 and is tied for sixth individually, just two shots off the lead. Lee turned in matching nines of 35-35, recorded five birdies and played the par 4s at 2-under for the round.
Drew Sykes added a 1-under 71 and is tied for 11th, giving the Chanticleers two players inside the top 15. Sykes surged early with a 6-under 30 on the front nine and finished with six birdies overall.
Max Bengtsson carded an even-par 72, while
Harrison James finished with a 7-over 79 and
Santiago Schele posted an 8-over 80 to round out the Coastal lineup.
The three-day tournament continues Tuesday with another 18 holes. Coastal Carolina will play alongside Jacksonville State and Louisiana beginning at 11:50 am ET.
