Women’s Basketball Cruises to 80-56 Win over UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Coastal Carolina women's basketball dominated UNCW on Wednesday night at Trask Coliseum, picking up their first road win by the final of 80-56.

The Chants improved to 2-2 with the victory.

COASTAL LEADERS
For the third time in the first four games, Tessa Grady led the Coastal scoring attack, matching her career-high set on Sunday against Lees-McRae at 23 points. Grady made nine of her 20 shot attempts, going 5-12 from beyond the three-point line. Four other players reached double-figures scoring, with Kristin Williams, Paige Bradley and D'Yanis Jimenez adding 12, and Tracey Hueston pouring in 11.

Bradley and Kinsea Grimes shared the rebound lead with nine. Bradley also added six assists in the win.  

GAME RECAP
Bradley started the game with a layup on Coastal's first possession to give the Chants the first lead. After UNCW tied the game 6-6, the Chants broke out an 9-1 run capped off with a Grady layup to push the lead to 15-7. Both teams traded three-pointers to close out the opening period with the Chants in front 18-10. Coastal held UNCW to just 3-17 shooting in the first quarter.  

Coastal made their first three shots from long-range to open the second quarter as their lead grew to 27-16 with 6:38 left. The Seahawks would cut the lead to six with 2:24 left in the quarter, but the Chants would score six of the next seven points on a Grady three-pointer and three-point play by Bradley to enter the locker room with a 38-27 lead.

The Chants broke it open in the third quarter, extending their lead to 54-33 courtesy of a Baylee Lowder layup with 3:44 remaining. Hueston finished off the period with a made shot under the basket with five seconds left to extend the Coastal advantage to 58-42.

Hueston and Grady combined to score 16 of Coastal's 22 points in the fourth quarter to close the game out with the Chants on top 80-56.

TEAM STATS
Coastal shot 39 percent from the field, going 29-74. The Chants continued their hot three-point shooting, going 10-25. Coastal won the rebounding battle 50-40 while forcing 19 turnovers, committing just nine of their own.

The Chants held UNCW to just 33 percent shooting and 18 percent from three.

Coastal continues their three-game road swing as they head to Virginia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 15 for a 2 p.m. tip-off against the Hokies.
