SAN MARCOS, Texas — Coastal Carolina pushed Texas State to the limit on Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a five-set battle, falling 3–2 (12–25, 25–21, 25–21, 22–25, 12–15) at Strahan Arena.
The Chanticleers (16-10, 8-6 Sun Belt) bounced back from a tough opening set to claim the next two, using steady offense and strong blocking to take a 2-1 match lead. Coastal out-hit the Bobcats .265 to .138 in the second set and added four blocks in the third to seize momentum.
Junior Emma Van Elslande paced the Chanticleers with 16 kills and a .233 hitting percentage while adding four service aces and six digs for a team-high 20.5 points. Anzley Rinard continued her consistent play with 13 kills, four blocks and a .250 attack percentage. Emily Fowler contributed eight kills and a match-high nine total blocks, while setter Jalyn Stout dished out 30 assists to go along with seven kills and 16 digs.
Stout recorded her 1,000th career dig on Saturday, becoming the first player in program history to post 1,000 career assists, digs and kills.
Defensively, Bailee Earnhardt anchored the back row with 27 digs as Coastal posted 83 digs as a team, matching the Bobcats' total.
Texas State (14-11, 9-5 Sun Belt) used a late surge in the fourth and fifth sets to rally for the win behind 13 kills each from Nina Moorer and Samantha Wunsch.
Despite the setback, Coastal Carolina finished with 12 team blocks and five service aces, marking the sixth time this season the Chants recorded double-digit blocks in conference play.
Coastal Carolina returns home next weekend to close out the regular season with a pair of matches Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15, at the HTC Center against South Alabama.
