Women's Basketball Set to Face Columbia College on Monday

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's basketball (6-7) faces a non-conference opponent with Columbia College (6-7) on Monday night  at the HTC Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.

ABOUT THE CHANTS

  • The Chanticleers are one of the highest-volume three-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 14th with 9.8 three-pointers per game and 21st with 27.5 three-point attempts per game.  
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 144th overall in the NCAA women's basketball NET rankings, one of nine Sun Belt teams ranked in the top 150.   
  • Coastal fell to Georgia State at the HTC Center 68-63 on December 20th to drop to 0-2 in Sun Belt play. 
  • Coastal went 22-58 (38%) from the field and 12-38 (32%) from three-point range, while making 7 of 13 free throws. 
  • Through 13 games, Coastal ranks tied for 71st in the country with 74.2 points per game
  • Tessa Grady leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game. 

ABOUT THE KOALAS
  • Columbia College, an NAIA team, currently stands at 6-7 this season with a 3-4 mark in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
  • The Koalas are coming off a 55-50 loss against Clinton College on Monday, Dec. 15. 
  • Anaya Muhammad leads the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game. 
  • Toccara Toland is in her 1st year as the head coach of the Koalas after leading Clinton College to a 22-6 record last season.  

SERIES HISTORY
  • Coastal will be meeting Columbia College for the 19th time, with the Koalas holding the series lead 11-7.  
  • The last time these two teams met was Nov. 19, 2012, where the Chants won 79-54.
  • Prior to the matchup in 2012, the last meeting was Nov. 29, 1988. 
  • Coastal has won the last three games after Columbia won the first seven meetings, all taking place in the 70s. 

SHE'S ARRIVED
  • In her freshman season, Kinsea Grimes has emerged as one of Coastal's most dynamic players.
  • In her first 13 games, Grimes has scored in double figures six times with three 20+ scoring performances, including a season-high 25 against Gardner-Webb. 
  • Grimes has collected two double-doubles, with 11 boards and 25 points against Gardner-Webb and 10 rebounds with 19 points against UNCG.
  • In the last seven games, Grimes has averaged 15.0 points per game while shooting 44% (36-82) from the field and 48% (13-27) from three. 

THREE-POINT PARTY
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 14th in the country with 9.8 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Chants are also ranked 21st in the country with 27.5 three-point attempts per contest.
  • Both Tessa Grady and Kristin Williams rank in the top-15 in the country for made three-pointers, with Grady tied for 6th (40) and Williams tied for 12th (39).

COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
  • This season, Coastal ranks tied for 28th in the country with 21.9 turnovers forced per game, and tied for 95th with a turnover margin of 3.0.

PEDERSON NEARING 500
  • Coastal Carolina Head Coach Kevin Pederson currently sits at 499 career wins across 24 seasons as a head coach. 
  • He holds 55 victories at Coastal, the fastest coach in program history to reach that mark.
