Women's Basketball Begins Six-Game Homestand with UNCG

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's basketball (5-5) starts their six-game homestand with UNCG on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.

ABOUT THE CHANTS
  • Coastal has won four of their first five home games this season, averaging 92.4 points per game at the HTC Center. 
  • Through the first nine games, the Chants have scored 100+ points in three contests, setting a new single-season program record.   
  • The Chants dropped their last game 68-51 to Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon in Florida.
  • Coastal's shooting was cold, going 18-65 (28%) from the field and 8-33 (24%) from three-point range.
  • Through 10 games, Coastal ranked tied for 58th in the country with 76.7 points per game
  • Tessa Grady leads the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game. 

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG currently stands at 5-4 this season with a 3-4 mark on the road.
  • The Spartans are coming off a 70-39 win over USC Upstate on Saturday. 
  • Jeni Levine leads the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. 
  • Trina Patterson is in her 10th year as the head coach of the Spartans, going 25-7 last season, her winningest campaign of her 26-year coaching career. 

SERIES HISTORY
  • Coastal will be meeting UNCG for the 25th time, with the Spartans holding the series lead 14-10. 
  • Last season, Coastal won 69-62 in Conway on Nov. 13th.
  • Coastal rallied from down 34-30 at half. 
  • The teams first met in 1987.

TESSA TURNS IT UP
  • In her first 10 games for Coastal, junior forward Tessa Grady has emerged as the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.2 points per game.
  • Grady led the team in scoring against Miami (OH) with 13 and Lees-McRae with a career-high 23. 
  • She matched her career-high in the next game, scoring 23 more against UNCW.
  • Grady poured in 22 points against #16 NC State, going 8-17 from the field and 5-11 from three
  • The Wisconsin transfer has started her season shooting 40% from the field and 36% from three.
  • Currently, Grady ranks 10th in the country with 33 three-pointers made in 10 games.

THREE-POINT PARTY
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 13th in the country with 9.7 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Chants are also rank 23rd in the country with 27.5 three-point attempts per contest.
  • Both Tessa Grady and Kristin Williams rank in the top-55 in the country for made three-pointers, with Grady tied for 10th (33) and Williams in 55th (27).

COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
  • This season, Coastal ranks 29th in the country with 22.5 turnovers forced per game, and 70th with a turnover margin of 4.3.
