JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Coastal Carolina stormed back from a five-run deficit and outlasted Ohio State, 10-8, in 11 innings on Saturday at VyStar Ballpark during the second day of the JAX College Baseball Classic.
Blagen Pado's leadoff double in the 11th set the stage for the Chanticleers' decisive rally.
Dean Mihos laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Pado to third, and
Caden Bodine followed with a clutch RBI single to left center, giving Coastal Carolina a 9-8 lead.
Blake Barthol singled to right, and
Colby Thorndyke added an insurance run with a base hit through the right side.
The extra-inning battle marked Coastal's first since a 5-4 loss at Creighton on April 24, 2024.
Ohio State built an early 5-0 lead in the second inning, highlighted by Cole Graveline's three-run homer. Coastal responded with a five-run outburst in the seventh, capped by Barthol's three-run homer to right center that gave the Chanticleers a brief 7-5 lead.
Ohio State rallied for three unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extras, but Coastal's bullpen held firm.
Ryan Lynch (1-0) earned the win with two innings of relief, and
Scott Doran picked up his first save with a scoreless 11th.
Cameron Flukey got the start and a no decision, going 4.2 innings and giving up five runs in the second frame. He pitched well after, striking out five before ceding the mound to
Dominick Carbone. Carbone was lights out, going 3.1 innings with four strikeouts.
Barthol led Coastal's offense, breaking out of a slow campaign start and going 3-for-6 with three RBIs, while Bodine added three hits and drove in two. The Chanticleers (5-2) pounded out 14 hits, while Ohio State (1-4) managed six.
