CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina cruised to a dominant 10-0, seven-inning victory over Rutgers on Friday night at Springs Brooks Stadium, powered by a strong offensive performance and a stellar outing on the mound from
Cullen McKay.
The Chanticleers (8-2) wasted no time setting the tone, plating four runs in the first inning and never looking back.
Dean Mihos and
Caden Bodine each recorded two hits and two RBIs, while
Blake Barthol and
Domenico Tozzi added an RBI apiece to fuel Coastal's attack. The Chanticleers capitalized on three errors by the Scarlet Knights (4-5), turning early opportunities into runs.
McKay (1-1) had some of his best stuff of the young season, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out five.
Luke Jones finished the game with a scoreless seventh inning, securing Coastal's first shutout win of the season.
Rutgers struggled to generate any offense, managing just four hits while striking out six times. Starter Justin Shadek (0-1) took the loss, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on six hits in three innings of work.
The Chanticleers tacked on insurance runs with a three-run third and two more in the fifth, enforcing the run-rule victory in the seventh inning.
