HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point used a fast start and balanced scoring to top Coastal Carolina 21-15 on Saturday afternoon at Vert Stadium. The Panthers outscored the Chanticleers 13-4 in the first half and held off a late Coastal surge to secure the victory.
Coastal Carolina (4-5) saw
Sydney McClure,
Alyson Mascolo, and
Maddie Bates each tally a hat trick. The Chanticleers outdrew High Point 15-6 in the second half, but struggled in the first, falling behind 6-2 on the scoreboard in the opening period and trailing 13-4 at halftime.
After the break, Coastal Carolina found its rhythm, scoring five goals in the third and six in the fourth. McClure and Mascolo each registered multi-goal second halves, and the Chants cut the deficit to as little as five, but High Point answered each run.
Esprit Cha led High Point (3-4) with four goals, while Allie Connally added a hat trick. Reese Dowgiallo contributed a team-high four assists and netted two goals. The Panthers outshot Coastal Carolina 34-29 and capitalized on four free-position opportunities.
In goal,
Charlotte Sadler and
Kylie Pastor split time for Coastal, combining for seven saves. Ava Welsh earned the win for High Point, stopping six shots.
