Liberty Hands Lacrosse 15-7 Loss in ASUN Opener

CONWAY, S.C. — Charlotte Sadler set a Coastal Carolina Lacrosse record with 19 saves, but it was not enough as the Chants dropped their ASUN opener Saturday afternoon, falling 15-7 to Liberty at Brooks Stadium despite a second-half surge from the Chanticleers.

Sadler's career high of 19 stops on 44 shots surpasses the previous mark of 17, which she tied earlier this year against Elon. Coastal cut the deficit to 12-7 midway through the fourth quarter following a three-goal run, but Liberty closed the game with the final three scores to secure the win.

Taiva Reinertson powered the Flames (7-3, 2-0 ASUN) with five goals and one assist, as Liberty built a commanding 8-1 halftime lead and held off a late Coastal push. Mackenzie Lehman added a hat trick, and Ava Rajala contributed two goals and four assists to pace the visitors.

The Chanticleers (4-6, 0-1 ASUN) were held scoreless in the second quarter and trailed by as many as eight goals entering the break. Maddie Bates led Coastal with three goals, including a pair in the second half, while Sydney McClure, Carleigh Patterson, Alyson Mascolo, and Brigid Cardillo each added a goal.

Liberty dominated the draw circle, 16-10, and outgained Coastal in ground balls (28-17) and total shots (44-22). The Chanticleers were also hampered by 22 turnovers and were 0-for-6 on extra-man opportunities.
