TROY, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina softball team fell short, taking a 5-1 loss in the series-deciding matchup against the Troy Trojans in Troy, Ala., on Sunday afternoon.
The Trojans were the first to strike in the bottom of the first inning when Makaley Boswell scored on a wild pitch, and Raeghan Oney hit an RBI single to make the score 2-0.
Boswell increased Troy's lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning when her groundout to
Keirstin Roose allowed Emily Ferro to cross home plate.
Two more runs came for the Trojans in the bottom of the fifth inning when Caiden Olivia laced an RBI triple down the right-field line, and Kayden Dunn hit a one-run single to extend Troy's lead to 5-0.
The Chanticleers broke the shutout when
Delaney Keith ripped a double to left field, scoring
Clara Hudgens in the top of the seventh. However, the Trojans were able to secure the final out and take the 5-1 victory.
The Chanticleers will be back in action at St. John Stadium on March 18 to take on the UNCW Seahawks at 4 p.m. ET.
